Have you always wanted to become a artist/designer?

I've always painted and crafted a lot. Sure I hoped I will one day include my creativity into my job. But I've never really had a fixed idea of what I wanted to become. Lucky me, I'm at this point right now..

Which project has given you the most satisfaction?

All and none of them.. I love doing what i do, but i'm never really happy with the results.
I definitely prefer to create something I want, before commissioned work. I put too much pressure on myself.

What types of books are on your bedside table?
Mangas, comic books, books of several artists and the 1st book I've read without being forced to do so. It's Element by Ken Robinson.

What is the best moment of the day?

One of the greatest things every day, is the freedom of getting up when I want to.. I hated so much getting up every morning for school or work so I appreciate every 'waking up' moment now.

What would be your dream project?

Working on some projects with my favorite artists would be nice. Don't know on what
but I love working with other creative people. I can learn so much from them. Another one is to buy a house/place where I could build my open art studio where creative people or kids who want to use the material I have, could gather and create their
projects. 

Can you recommend some movie you've watched recently?

I watch so many movies I almost can't remember. Here's a list of movies I watched recently and liked: The croods, 2guns, The secret life of Walter Mitty, Game of thrones, The lone ranger. Most of the time I watch documentaries from BBC.

Who is your hero at the moment?

Everyone doing good things to others without any expectations.

How important is craftsmanship in your design process?

Very important. I made a apprenticeship as a goldsmith and I love to form / build things by hand. As a kid I made a lot of my action heroes with Fimo (clay). I made almost all the characters from the teenage mutant hero turtles and the Xmen.

If you were a character from a cartoon, which one would you be? :)

Monkey d luffy from one piece. My friends say so ^^

If you could do any other job what would you choose and why?

Concept artist for a awesome rpg game like Final Fantasy. I admire concept artists. Designing a whole world out of landscapes, characters, weapons, vehicles, monsters and so on... Or teaching young people about art.

Where could we find you on friday night?

Home playing games with my friends online or having a relaxed evening with my girlfriend and friends, having dinner and a good time. I like relaxed moments with good company.

Is there any other media that you would like to try yourself in?

A lot I have so many ideas and projects in my mind, I'll be glad if i can at least realize one of them. I would definitely love to create furniture or doing a interior design projects. I would like to design a bar or a restaurant. Woodcarving also would be nice to learn. Or calligraphy.. i'm also still thinking about an offer i got to learn how to

tattooing. There's so many things to learn! Need more time =(

Creative sites or blogs I love to visit: behance.net, pinterest.com, thecoolhunter and so on. I also love tech blogs: engadget.com, mashable.com ... And I spend way too much time on Youtube!

How would you define your personal work-life balance in terms of ratio (50/50 70/30 etc)?

70 work / 10 sport / 20 personal

What brings you joy?
My work, riding my motorcycle, chilling with my girlfriend, spending time with good people, 
teaching children classes in taekwondo, listening to my cat purr, playing video games, sometimes even cooking...

Wednesday interview: Arunas Kacinskas

Today we present you Arunas Kacinskas, illustrator and graphic designer from London. He currently works at creative agency "The Design Surgery" in London. Take a look what he had to say for our blog and of course, enjoy his works:

Have you always wanted to become a illustrator/designer?

From the childhood I was always drawing and sketching, so I guess it's logical that I become illustrator and design part came after I j

oined my current full time agency. I have realized that both disciplines can work together quite well.

Which project has given you the most satisfaction?

I always  try to find the right perspective and attitude for any work I'm doing, but lately I'm enjoying a lot working on my personal project.

The recent one that was really fun to work was  a project I've been commissioned by Toronto agency, "52 Pick up" to create illustrations which would promote the campaign of the building.

What types of books are on your bedside table?

At the moment I'm reading " The Walking dead" and "Fables" comic books. 

What is the best moment of the day?

I do enjoy to grab a cup of coffee in the mornings and wait for that kick to start the day.

Another part of the day I do enjoy a lot is late night then everything slows down and you can reflect on your day and start working on freelance or personal projects.

What would be your dream project?

I'm always excited to work with the clients and people who cares and appreciates their job, so I would say my dream job is to work with the team of people who are passionate about the project and which gives you the time to execute and artwork . At the moment I'm looking forward to do any illustration project about Japan or get commissioned by Monocle magazine.

Can you recommend some good movie you've watched recently?

The recent movie which impressed my was " The Prisoners", directed by Denis Villeneuve. 

The one to watch is Wes Anderson's " The Gran Budapest hotel " and "Snowpiercier"by Joon-ho Bong.

Who is your hero at the moment?

I would say my colleagues at " Design Surgery". I do follow loads of artists and their work. Few of them I adore are Robin Davey, Tadahiro Uesugi, Bruno Mangyoku, Vincent Mahe, Satoshi Hashimato, Laszlito Kovacs and many more.

Cat or dog?

I would go with dog, as cats are to ignorant and love their privacy.

If you were a character from a cartoon, which one would you be? :)

Good one. I would probably say – Naruto. It's manga and anime character whom is funny and serious at same time.

If you could do any other job what would you choose and why?

I guess it would be something related to creativity, so architect I guess would be good call, but I shabby with maths.

Where could we find you on friday night?

The best guess would be at Shoreditch,London. You probably will find me having a pint with my friends in the pub.

I do always check Behance site for daily news and updates. Honestly there are so many that I can't name them all.

How would you define your personal work-life balance in terms of ratio (50/50 70/30 etc)

Sometimes then the deadline start pilling up it could be quite rough, but whenever I have free time I try to compensate. The balance is always ideal 50/50.

What brings you joy? 

At the moment I try to learn to enjoy small things in life.

New drawings

Par novih crteza iz serije "Am I an adult yet". Uskoro je zavrsavam i prelazim na veci format kao i na slike. Nisam slikala bas dugo i jako se radujem susretu sa platnom.

These are the new drawings from the ongoing series of drawings "Am I an adult yet". Just a few more of them, and then I'm taking bigger format and also I'm preparing new paintings. 

New illustrations

Mermaid and the dog, or how I call it, Sea-dog is a new illustration and now there's three of them for series of drawings inspired by sea. The idea is to put them all in round frames, instead of this over here, and color of the frames will be neon yellow. I'm thinking of neon pink or white, also but will see. Those round frames are different sizes and some of them are really small. It's quite different concept from my previous productions, small round frames with intensive colors. Can't wait to see how it's going to look like. I will definitely show you all when I'm done with the details.

our studio

Here's little bits and peaces of our studio, we did a little redecorating, and there is still lot's to do, but we feel like it's just a matter of time!...fingers crossed!!!
